Human Clinical Evidence in Treatment-Resistant Pediatric Epilepsy
Research overview
Better Cann Pharmaceutical was among the early Israeli companies involved in multi-center clinical research involving children and adolescents with severe, treatment-resistant epilepsy.
The research examined the use of a standardized, plant-derived cannabinoid formulation in a pediatric population for whom existing therapies had not provided adequate seizure control.

Outcomes
CBD-enriched treatment yielded a significant positive effect on seizure load. 66 of 74 children (89%) reported a reduction in seizure frequency.
Reported reductions: 75–100% in 18% of patients, 50–75% in 34%, 25–50% in 12%, and under 25% in 26%. Improvements were also observed in behavior, alertness, language and communication, motor skills, and sleep.
Figures are reported as published in Tzadok et al., Seizure 2016. As a retrospective, real-world study, results are described by parental report rather than a controlled trial design.
Safety observations
Adverse reactions included somnolence, fatigue, gastrointestinal disturbances, and irritability, leading to withdrawal of treatment in 5 patients. Five patients (7%) reported aggravation of seizures leading to withdrawal.
